Twitter Is Blocked In Pakistan

That’s right. Twitter bird is in the cage of Pakistani government. One never knows, what they are up to and till when.

Our IT Ministry thinks that if someone in the world create and share blasphemous content through social media sites. Then it is in the best interest of the state and people to block the site for millions of users in the country.

Last year they were trying banning Facebook for the same reasons. Shall we stop them?

PS. I just wrote to some leading tech blogs to support and thankfully TechCrunch covered it.

A Hacker’s Birthday

“But one thing is certain, and it’s that I’m a jerk for making this site. Oh well. Someone had to do it eventually…”

“We don’t build services to make money; we make money to build better services.”

“We have a saying: ‘Move fast and break things.’ The idea is that if you never break anything, you are probably not moving fast enough.”

“Let the hacking begin.”

“The hacker way is an approach to building that involves continuous improvement and iteration. Hackers believe that something can always be better, and that nothing is ever complete.”

“In a world that is changing so quickly, you’re guaranteed to fail if you don’t take any risks.”

“You have part of my attention, the minimum amount needed. The rest of my attention is back at the offices of Facebook where my employees and I are doing things that no one in this room, including and especially your clients are intellectually or creatively capable of doing.”

Someone at Facebook: “He pointed out Apple’s headquarters, then Hewlett-Packard and a number of other big tech companies,” the individual explained. “Then he pointed to Facebook and said that it would eventually be bigger than all of the companies he had just mentioned, and that if I joined the company, I could be a part of it all.”

And… Steve Jobs: “but I don’t see anybody other than Facebook out there. Just Facebook, They are dominating this. I admire Mark Zuckerberg . . . for not selling out, for wanting to make a company. I admire that a lot.”

Boy it is your day. Wishes from Pakistan. 🙂

Please Write Email In 5 Sentences or DON’T

We no longer like emails as much as we used to do. Why. This is because it takes lot of time and still the uncertainty stays with it.

In fact now people are buying t-shirts like the one below. I think I and you need one too. It can be purchased from here.

Any way.. let’s move on.

Writing email and business letter was first thing which I learned back in 2007. I’m still learning how to write an email under 5 sentences.

One thing which I learned about email and many people miss is: The purpose of email is to get the work done. Email is not about all-this-and-that.

It is all and only about to get the work done.

Here is how I do it.

  • please don’t write email. please. unless it is truly needed.
  • please write them back at earliest, as they wrote because it was truly needed.
  • if all you need to give them one sentence information, send ’em a text message or make a call.
  • write action points in bold.
  • if someone has written you an email to inform about something important, please write ’em back that you have read the email.
  • make full use of subject to provide heart of the message.
  • avoid formal sentences.
  • use words, instead of sentence.
  • use many fullstops. When you add fullstop you mean it in what so ever.
  • make use of bullets.
  • make use of social media. If you can approach to the receiver fatser using Facebook or Twitter, go for it.

Like me, if you are one who likes short email messages. Consider adding your tip(s) in comments below.

Cheers.

Did You Know? Your Kids Will Love Your Facebook Timeline

Seriously, I didn’t want to write more about this Timeline for now, but this idea hit me hard in brain. So here we go.

As I and others have said earlier that Facebook timeline is all about stories and to touch people (your audience) emotionally. Here is what I was thinking today, other than me, who’ll be me most passionate about my story. Answer came in seconds, “my kids.”
Yes I love(d) the time when my father and/or mother tell me beautiful memories of their early life. And I know you do the same. Being human, my and yours kids are going to do the same.

Why stories are taught to us at early age? Simple answer is, this is one of the best things we love to do at that age.

I Am Afraid, I Shall Look Dumb

That’s how we feel when we are unsure of our answer or comment about the ongoing topic.

Teacher asks class to raise hands if you have something to say, and you become uncomfortable. And then you keep your mouth shut because you’re afraid you might get it really wrong and everyone will know you’re dumb.

Though it didn’t happen with me as much during school days.

But it is happening now some time.

Few days back I was thinking about writing my insight on possible changes in Facebook at f8 conference.

At one moment I thought to pen my thoughts. I rejected it, because I was afraid I will feel dumb.

Now I really feel being stupid about that. I should have done so, I would have learn more, even if I were wrong.

But lesson learned.

Now when I am writing this post, I am having same kind of  feelings, because a lot has already been said and written about this phenomena. But now I know, I will be real dumb, if I’ll not write it.

Understanding New Facebook With Timeline

So now it is been few hours (I originally wrote this post within three hours) when I watched live streaming of Facebook’s f8 conference. One of the major reasons to follow this event was, that leaving user growth behind, how Facebook is going to empower emotional connections and engagement.

And thankfully Mark Zuckerburg did not disappoint, I loved many of the new features (not sure about moving Trickr yet). But like many others what caught my eyes is Timeline.

In familiar words it is your multimedia (including updates, links, activity, photos and videos) supported Facebook Profile along with a Timeline.

As it says, it helps tell your story with a new kind of profile. So far only developers are invited to have and view others’ Timeline, but with this smart trickyou can get an early access now.Let’s dig deeper, why I believe one can get a job, build more influence and even get married with a right person using this Timeline feature?

Timeline is highly advanced form of your profile which preserve your memories and let you tell your stories in a visually-rich and carefully designed magazine form.

You can not only present your basic information in a fashionable way. But using text, photos, and apps you can also build a showcase of other important life events, like when you bought a new house, had surgery or got a license.

Also you can share important events of your career and control who see and comments on them. This is now the future of sharing.

You can also keep track of pages and friends which connected to you in a certain month.

More, while scrolling through the timeline you can add more event any time or hide an exciting one from the timeline.

Text and photos just tell a part of your story, what is left can be added by ‘Your Apps.’ Through smart social apps you can control what you are reading, listening to, or watching.

Facebook apps will add this rich media into your timeline, while you control the sharing settings. These powerful and certainly does add the left emotional part to your timeline.

For example spotify apps brings free music to Facebook, and let you share the music (not link) with your friends. Here is an introductory video from Spotify.

You can see showcase of companies, which are first to join to the Open Graph of Facebook to help you share what you read, listen or watch with your network as well as at your Timeline.Ah..

Earlier today, I was talking to my mom. I told her, I’m not just interested in what Facebook is going to announce. They don’t just build new feature for future, but they go there (in future) and find out what is the future of their technology. Then they build it.

So this has clearly confirmed my thoughts. Future of social media is not just about sharing links and feeding the wall with news and videos. It is about sharing the experience, telling the stories and feeling the emotions.Everyone of us has a story to share, and people love stories. In coming days common user of Facebook will not only be a content producer but a highly empowered story-teller and content curator.

Find more and sign up for Facebook Timeline here. If you have it already or not, tell me what you think of this massive move by Facebook. Are you excited to share your story via new Timeline?

Sorry Mom, I’m Busy With Friends on Facebook

It is safe to assume, like me you spend plenty of time with your computer and gadgets. Indeed interactive and social sites make us feel very good to spare time (this is why they exist). We share and hangout with friends online. Yes we happily do this everyday.

But on the other hand, we’re giving less time to our offline friends and most importantly to family. I am realizing it more than ever, because these days, I’m at my hometown with my family and it encounters to me.

Good thing is that I have learned to manage my time online and offline. What are you waiting of? Go.. Take a nap from this screen. 😉 Have a good time!  ♥ ♥ ♥

I’ll not repeat what all was said in the chat, you can read that.

In short, social media sites especially Facebook, twitter and YouTube are here to stay for long. This is because they are not driven by the companies behind them but these are the users like you and me, who find value in their interactions on web.

If you are a business, remember you can not get in to the community circle by marketing tone.
