Did You Know? Your Kids Will Love Your Facebook Timeline

Seriously, I didn’t want to write more about this Timeline for now, but this idea hit me hard in brain. So here we go.

As I and others have said earlier that Facebook timeline is all about stories and to touch people (your audience) emotionally. Here is what I was thinking today, other than me, who’ll be me most passionate about my story. Answer came in seconds, “my kids.”
Yes I love(d) the time when my father and/or mother tell me beautiful memories of their early life. And I know you do the same. Being human, my and yours kids are going to do the same.

Why stories are taught to us at early age? Simple answer is, this is one of the best things we love to do at that age.

Continue reading this post at my tumblr.

Understanding New Facebook With Timeline

So now it is been few hours (I originally wrote this post within three hours) when I watched live streaming of Facebook’s f8 conference. One of the major reasons to follow this event was, that leaving user growth behind, how Facebook is going to empower emotional connections and engagement.

And thankfully Mark Zuckerburg did not disappoint, I loved many of the new features (not sure about moving Trickr yet). But like many others what caught my eyes is Timeline.

In familiar words it is your multimedia (including updates, links, activity, photos and videos) supported Facebook Profile along with a Timeline.

As it says, it helps tell your story with a new kind of profile. So far only developers are invited to have and view others’ Timeline, but with this smart trickyou can get an early access now.Let’s dig deeper, why I believe one can get a job, build more influence and even get married with a right person using this Timeline feature?

Timeline is highly advanced form of your profile which preserve your memories and let you tell your stories in a visually-rich and carefully designed magazine form.

You can not only present your basic information in a fashionable way. But using text, photos, and apps you can also build a showcase of other important life events, like when you bought a new house, had surgery or got a license.

Also you can share important events of your career and control who see and comments on them. This is now the future of sharing.

You can also keep track of pages and friends which connected to you in a certain month.

More, while scrolling through the timeline you can add more event any time or hide an exciting one from the timeline.

Text and photos just tell a part of your story, what is left can be added by ‘Your Apps.’ Through smart social apps you can control what you are reading, listening to, or watching.

Facebook apps will add this rich media into your timeline, while you control the sharing settings. These powerful and certainly does add the left emotional part to your timeline.

For example spotify apps brings free music to Facebook, and let you share the music (not link) with your friends. Here is an introductory video from Spotify.

You can see showcase of companies, which are first to join to the Open Graph of Facebook to help you share what you read, listen or watch with your network as well as at your Timeline.Ah..

Earlier today, I was talking to my mom. I told her, I’m not just interested in what Facebook is going to announce. They don’t just build new feature for future, but they go there (in future) and find out what is the future of their technology. Then they build it.

So this has clearly confirmed my thoughts. Future of social media is not just about sharing links and feeding the wall with news and videos. It is about sharing the experience, telling the stories and feeling the emotions.Everyone of us has a story to share, and people love stories. In coming days common user of Facebook will not only be a content producer but a highly empowered story-teller and content curator.

Find more and sign up for Facebook Timeline here. If you have it already or not, tell me what you think of this massive move by Facebook. Are you excited to share your story via new Timeline?

How to Add a Tweet Button With Your Twitter Username into WordPress.com

UPDATE (April29, 2012): Though WordPress.com now lets you add your own twitter username when using the Tweet Button. For this you need to set up Publicize feature for Twitter. (Official message from WordPress.com here.)

NOTE: When I enabled this feature, it didn’t work at first. So I disabled and enabled again, and it worked fine for a day or two. IT HAS STOPPED WORKING AGAIN NOW.

But don’t worry.

To create your own tweet button, please go through these steps.

This button’s function include:

  • adds my twitter handle / username after the Post Title and URL
  • suggests non-followers to follow me on Twitter
  • shows the main website link after RT

But this will not show the tweets count.

You can test it by using the tweet button below. 😉

Summary of #smpk Twitter Chat: Using Facebook for Businesses in Pakistan

On Sunday (Feb 27, 2010) marked the first official #smpk twitter chat. The #smpk tag was born to discuss social media trends and use in Pakistani perspective.

I invited everyone to participate and was fortunate to attract members of IT committee of Lahore Chamber of Commerce and Industry and some new media learner.

Some highlights from the chat:

http://twitter.com/BalalNaeem/status/41899447034200064

You can read all the tweets by following #smpk

I’ll not repeat what all was said in the chat, you can read that.

In short, social media sites especially Facebook, twitter and YouTube are here to stay for long. This is because they are not driven by the companies behind them but these are the users like you and me, who find value in their interactions on web.

If you are a business, remember you can not get in to the community circle by marketing tone.

Be Social, Be Human!

Twitter Chat: Let’s Talk About #smpk

A lot have been spammed from me about today’s twitter chat.

Yes I’m jumping in to talk every Sunday about social media for businesses in Pakistan. I and my team member will use Twitter Chat.

Today night at 9pm PST we are starting our first chat, topic is Using Facebook for Businesses in Pakistan. I think it would be interesting and fun learning experience.

Follow #smpk (hashtag on twitter for more).

See you.

Your Customers Are Empowered; Are Your Employees too?

Online media has empowered user to share his views to a vast majority. People are tweeting & blogging about their likes & dislikes.

They are writing anything about anything, Yes about your product too.So are you well aware of what’s being said about you? How you manage your company’s online reputation, which has now become very important in past couple of years.

Angry Mike can tweet about the reason behind his anger to his 3700+ followers, worse he can write a post on his blog about.

Mike is not alone here, anyone can be confuse on our your complex product and can warn his prospects never to try you, they do not care of your satisfaction.

So only great products or better services is not the answer of this possible crisis. You will have to make them happy again right there. Unfortunately most of the companies are using social media as another selling tool and fortunately they are getting failed.

Businesses today are serving to the most empowered customers in history. Therefore now customer is considered as a friend/enemy of your business. It’s up to you how you get their trouble solved and respond them as quickly as possible.

My answer to this challenge is to empower your employees. Let a human deal with a human.

  • Ask your IT dept not to ban twitter and other social networking site anymore.
  • Set a social media policy and guidelines.
  • Find the social guys (I call them Rock Stars) out of your staff and encourage them to talk on behalf of the company online.
  • Be there to support the innovative ideas of your staff and help them to apply.
  • Provide them the tools to manage possible risk & let them install Tweet-deck too.
  • Do not shit next time, “why you are installing Photoshop on the company’s computer.” Believe me, ideas can come from any level of the organization any time and they can take you to higher. Encourage them to be creative, look for the solutions with a new set of eyes.
  • Let the Rock  Stars to spread social virus to others inside the company.

What makes the difference is weather the company has organized itself and employees to use the social tools to make their customer happy. Remember social media is to sell TAKE CARE of your customers. Take Care!

Whole World Is Our Community

When I’m writing this line, I’m talking to a friend via Facebook chat in India. He is a big motivator and inspiration to me. Before 2009 I hardly knew anyone personally outside my friends and local community. But internet and social media sites has helped me to connect with like minded people like you. The best thing about you people is that we can interact genuinely and make some big or small difference to ours lives.

I personally believe Whole World Is Our Community and social media is helping us to be social. What is the size of your community, are you building one? If yes, how social media is helping you to be social? Please share.

PS. I’ll be sharing my best life changaing online connection in this week, so stay tuned friends.

PSS. The reason of my absence was that I’m sick and suffering with flu, which is keeping me silent. But I’ll recover soon. Love You All, yes you’re all a BIG part of my community. And if you’ve not yet, tell us About You. Thank you! 😉
